Request For

Proposal

Requests for Proposals (RFP) are generated by architects who have a need for pricing and scheduling of services or construction. Typically RFPs must be responded to within a certain time frame specified by each contract. Timely response maintains a continuous flow of information so to not interrupt the schedule of each project. Sometimes the RFP will generate a cost item for an add to the general contract for construction, usually budgeted in the project contingency fund. If it is not in the contingency fund but an unforseen added scope item generated by the owner, the budget is revised accordingly. If it is generated by a misunderstanding of the contract documents, it may be paid for by the construction contingency or if the contractor was negligent in pricing the item, he may have to pay for it from his contingency fund. In any case, if it is an added scope item in will eventually be added to a Change Order. Projects maintains a database and reports the life of each instance.
